Economic and Political Development

A Country on the Move...

By Jawan Shir Rasikh (Afghanistan)

After establishing of a new government in Afghanistan – by a historical conference –Bonn/Germany in December 2001, the country Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has a passed constitution and elected president and at the same time people elected representatives in National assembly. Afghanistan has completed the Bonn Process and now prepared and has done some to renew its mutual commitments to International Community. In the five years that have passed since Afghanistan emerged from armed conflict and began fashioning itself anew, the country has witnessed changes that would have been unimaginable in the eyes of its own people just a short time ago. Today it stands on the threshold of another transition—from recovery to long-term development. In many parts of the country, the legacy of years of civil war encounters and the spirit of a new beginning. Across the country girls are attending schools and universities after a long period of time that was dominated by Taliban Regime and during civil war.

A new network of roads and land mine clearance are paving the way for reconstruction; and disarming of militias and holding of free and fair elections are laying the foundations for a peace that is both enduring and democratic. The task of rebuilding Afghanistan requires a foundation of trust and partnership. It is trust that enables a country or a government to invite partnership and international and foreigners into its society to mutually and communally apply knowledge and resources mostly effectively. This collaboration has already yielded significant results. The changes came into Afghanistan in the last five years and economically and technologically. This achievement marked not only Afghanistan return to the global virtual community, but has underscored the key role of information technology and management in reconstruction. Day by day governmental institutions become more functional and became in the last five years and they became adept at delivering services and countering the threats of insecurity with tangible promise of a better life.
