What did you think before coming?

Two years before my long-term stay in Afghanistan I started to work in the project “Building AIESEC in Afghanistan”. In 2005 I have been to Afghanistan twice for this project. And I found this country and its people so interesting that I wanted to come for a longer time.

What was your time in Afghanistan like?

Afghanistan for sure is not an easy country with a still not stable government. But it is even in these days secure enough to come here and push the reconstruction process. Foreign people are needed to support the Afghans on their way to improve the structure in all areas.

What would you say to someone thinking of coming to Afghanistan?

I can just recommend coming here. Of course the life is not easy but for having an easy life it is best to stay at home. What you can do here is real reconstruction work which will make you extraordinarily satisfied. And even if a job is sometimes difficult because of the missing structure in the country then there are many other things to experience. I gave guidance to a worker in my neighbourhood so that he is able to start his studies at the university soon. It was a real challenge to organize when you see the monthly income of his 15-member-family with an amount of 250 Dollar. These are the real challenges and they give highest satisfaction.
